MIDDLE FORK OF THE SALMON - 7 DAY TRIP
BY ALEX SAAD
With the sun finally coming out, the valley floor is now flooded in a vibrant green as the snows of the high country begin to melt away revealing emerald-colored lakes and vast scree fields. I am currently pulling together a gear list and meal schedule for a week on the Middle Fork of the Salmon River in July- and maybe you’re working up to packing for a similar river trip, too.
Creating and sticking to a meal schedule ensures that everything you bring on the raft serves a purpose and will be used with minimal trash to carry. Instead of weighing down the dry boxes with clunky cast-iron, a multitude of cooking utensils, and dishes - I’ve scheduled out a week of meals that keep things exciting and efficient. You might grimace at the thought of eating freeze-dried food to such a degree (that we will some nights switch it up with some can’t live without river trip guilty pleasures) - but the high-quality, locally-sourced, and fresh ingredients in a Gastro Gnome meal make all the difference in the world when it comes to a meal out of a bag.
